Common Repairs on the Jaguar XK8/XKR

The XK series by Jaguar is a line of full-size luxury sedans with all the style and elegance consumers have come to expect from the British brand. The Jaguar XK8/XKR delivers enough power to please any speed junky yet is classy enough to take out on the town. Though the XK series are extremely well-built, they are not without their problems. These include:

Differential Noise: A loud grinding noise coming from the differential is reported by many Jaguar XK8/XKR drivers. It is most noticeable upon acceleration and does not become better or worse over time.

Surging at Highway Speed: An unexpected surge of acceleration is experienced by some Jaguar XK8/XKR drivers as they are cruising in excessive of 50 mph. While not excessive, it does present a problem in traffic.

Rough Idling at Start-Up: For some XK drivers, rough idling upon startup presents a problem. The vehicle will turn over fine, and then begin to shake and emit smoke from the exhaust after running a couple of minutes.

Stalling on Start-Up: For other XK drivers, it is difficult to start their vehicles periodically – perhaps every once in ten starts. The engine will not stay running unless the throttle is feathered until it becomes warm.

Dash Light Malfunction With Headlights On: Other owners have reported that when turning the headlights on, their dash lights will go out. If the headlights are turned off, the dash lights come back on. This is probably due to a wiring issue within the dash.

If you encounter any of these issues with your Jaguar XK series vehicle, we recommend making an appointment with your local auto import mechanic. They have the experience and knowledge to evaluate your vehicle without all the hassle and extra cost associated with a Jaguar dealership.
